The average VP of Sales now lasts 19 months. A decade ago it was 26.
So think about what founders are actually being told to do.

You're between $1M and $10M in revenue. You're the bottleneck. Every deal still runs through you. And the advice is: go hire a VP of Sales for $250K to $450K all-in, pay a recruiter 20-30% on top, wait 3-6 months for them to ramp, and hope they're the exception who makes it past month 20.

If they're the wrong hire, the U.S. Department of Labor says a mishire costs you at least 30% of first-year salary. At the executive level it's far more.

No wonder most founders freeze and just keep selling.

But the choice was never binary. It's not "do it all yourself" OR "commit to a full-time executive."

Sales leadership is five jobs:
- Process design
- Team building
- Coaching
- Metrics and forecasting
- Accountability

Not one of them requires the person to be full-time and permanent. They require experience and consistency.

That's the whole case for a Fractional Sales Leader. You get a senior operator on day one, at roughly 40-70% less than a full-time exec, building a system that runs without you.
Even if you DO eventually want a full-time VP, building the system first is what makes that hire succeed instead of failing in 19 months. You hand them a machine, not a mess.

One caveat. If you have no product-market fit yet, keep selling it yourself.
A system can't systematize demand that isn't there.
